Today is the 2nd of July 2026.
Monthly Updates are posts at the beginning of every month, to go over the events of the previous month, and to prepare for the upcoming month.
Previous Month Recap
In June I continued through and finished 007 First Light. It's very much a HITMAN game but much easier and guided. I actually was a bit disappointed when I first realized this because my expectations were something on the level of a blockbuster hit -- the IP of James Bond / '007' should garner a decent budget these days and a level of quality that stands above the rest, alongside the likes of Uncharted.
Having played the HITMAN games, you can see the same climbing animations, the same poorly detailed NPCs, the same familiar AI behavior, and lack of details that elevate a game higher. But over time as I played it, I began to see a bit of charm to it, and realized this is more of a smaller team that is trying to overachieve and hit above their weight. I wouldn't say this is worth the full $70 price I paid, but a good game at $40-50.
July 2026
- D-topia
As with June, also not a whole lot going on in July. D-topia is a game published by Annapurna Interactive - a cozy puzzle game with a nice aesthetic. I will work on 007 First Light in the meantime.
In other news, on the 1st of July, Sony dropped the bombshell that they will not be producing anymore physical copies starting in 2028. This is a ridiculous conclusion that they have come to. No matter what trend they think they are seeing, removing the option for physical discs is such an obvious ploy to control the market and pricing. Gaming has been narrowing itself into some weird state which I find very distasteful lately.
